Southeastern won its third straight Southland Conference game – its first such league winning streak since the 2008-09 season - on Wednesday, holding UCA to 15 points in the second half on the way to a 63-42 win over Central Arkansas. The 42 points yielded were the fewest by the Lady Lions since a 71-41 win over then-league foe UT Arlington on Feb. 18, 2012.

Celica Sterling scored all of her game-high 19 points in the second half to lead SLU, while Caitlyn Williams recorded her third double-double of the season with 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Alexius Horne finished with a career-high nine assists, while also leading the Lady Lion defensive effort with three steals.

Sterling leads SLU and is seventh in the Southland with 13.9 points per game, as she, Jyar Francis (10.5 ppg) and Horne (10.4 ppg) gives SLU a trio of double-digit scoring averages. Morgan Carrier (7.6 ppg) and Charliee Dugas (7.3 ppg) round out the team's top five scorers.

Horne is also Southeastern's top playmaker, as her 29 assists over the past four games have moved her into fourth place in the Southland with 3.9 assists per game. Dugas enters Saturday's game needing 45 points to become the 21st student-athlete in program history to reach 1,000 career points.

Behind the sharp-shooting of Sterling, Carrier and Francis, SLU is averaging 6.0 three-point field goals per game. Sterling's 2.2 treys per contest are good for fourth in the conference and her 108 career three-point field goals represent the sixth-highest total in school history.

SLU enters the UNO contest with a minus-5.8 rebounding margin. Williams leads the team and is 12th in the Southland with 6.1 rebounds per contest and needs 33 rebounds to crack the school's career top 15.

Opponents are averaging 65.3 points and committing 18.2 turnovers per outing versus SLU. Horne is ninth in the league with 2.0 steals per game, while Williams (17, 10th) and Aminat Jubril (16, 13th) are among the league's blocked shot leaders. Morrison (141) and Dugas (138) are currently eighth and ninth, respectively, on the school's career steals list.

New Orleans is one of the hottest teams in the Southland, having won eight of its last nine games. The Privateers are coming off a 77-63 victory at Northwestern State on Wednesday.

Rehema Franklin (13.3 ppg) and Asia Woods (10.7 ppg) are the top scorers for UNO. Woods (7.3 rpg, 6th) and Whitley Larry (6.9 rpg, 8th) both rank among the Southland's top rebounders.

Opponents are scoring 63.8 points per game versus UNO. Larry leads the league with 36 blocked shots, while Franklin (2.1, 8th) and Larry (2.0, 9th) are in the conference top 10 in steals per game.

Saturday will be the 48th all-time meeting between the in-state rivals. After winning the last five meetings, UNO has taken a 26-21 advantage in the all-time series.

The Lady Lions will play its part in "Spring Into Spring" week at SLU, hosting Play4Kay and Alumni Day festivities in conjunction with the UIW contest.

Southeastern is playing its part in raising cancer awareness by supporting the nationwide Play4Kay initiative. Proceeds from the game will benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, which raises money for cancer research and is named for the late North Carolina State head coach who passed away from breast cancer in 2009.

Southeastern Athletics, North Oaks Health System and PRIDE will partner to host the event. All cancer survivors will receive free admission, be honored at halftime during the Survivor Walk and are invited to the pregame survivor reception from noon-1 p.m. in the University Center's St. Tammany Room. Survivors are asked to RSVP by Friday, January 31 at (985) 549-5091.

T-shirts will be given out to fans as available. Links will be sold for a $1 at the SLU-UIW contest for the survivor chain that will be displayed in the University Center during the game. Southeastern student organizations, faculty and staff will participate in a Stationary Bike Challenge with fans donating to the team they believe will win. All proceeds from the links and Stationary Bike Challenge will benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

For the contest, the Lady Lions will be decked out in brand new pink uniforms, donated by Craig and Pam Cook Forrest. Cook Forrest is a member of PRIDE and the Southeastern Athletics Hall of Fame, as well as one of three Lady Lions in school history to have their jersey retired and one of the stars of the 1976-77 AIAW National Championship team.

In addition to supporting her team, Cook Forrest and her husband donated the uniforms in memory of Craig's sister, Kathy Dale Forrest. The couple believed buying the uniforms was a fitting tribute to Kathy, a Southeastern graduate who passed away due to breast cancer in December 2016.

Charliee Dugas will be Saturday's Spotlight Player of the Game. The first 150 fans will receive a trading card featuring the Rayne, Louisiana native courtesy of PRIDE.
