HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana seniors Corey Gaconi and Kyle Schimpf earned Google Cloud Academic All-District honors, the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday. The selections mark the first time in program history the Lions have had multiple honorees.
 
Gaconi, a senior pitcher from Metairie, Louisiana, sports a 3.92 cumulative GPA in marketing. He currently ranks fifth nationally in both strikeout-to-walk ratio (9.50) and fewest walks allowed per nine innings (0.87). The right-hander is second in the Southland Conference with a 2.07 ERA, third in innings pitched (82.2), fourth in strikeouts (76) and seventh in wins (6).
 
Schimpf, a senior infielder from Covington, Louisiana, owns a 3.86 cumulative GPA in general studies. He ranks fourth in the Southland in RBIs (42) and sixth in walks (28). Last month, Schimpf was one of three Southeastern players recognized before the Louisiana House of Representatives for their role in saving a woman's life this past June while on the way to a summer league game in Canada.
 
Each member of the Southeastern baseball team is encouraged to complete at least 30 community service hours per school year, helping to fulfill the athletic department's mission statement of excellence in the classroom, community and competition.
 
The 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Baseball Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program recognizes baseball honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
 
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
 
Google Cloud Academic All-America® teams will be announced June 6 (NCAA Division I).
