Southeastern Continues Road Swing at Cincinnati

Lady Lions back on the court versus the Bearcats on Wednesday at 6 p.m. (Central)

11/14/2017 4:27:00 PM

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team will continue its seven-game road swing on Wednesday, when it faces Cincinnati at 6 p.m. (Central) at Saint Ursula Academy Gymnasium and Convocation Center.

The Lady Lions (0-2) will be looking for their first win of the 2017-18 season when it meets the host Bearcats (1-1) for the first time in school history. Live stats and video, provided by host Cincinnati, will be accessible via the women's basketball schedule page at www.LionSports.net.

On Sunday, Southeastern jumped out to a 23-15 lead midway through the second quarter, but eventually fell at LSU, 84-56, in Baton Rouge. Senior guard Taylin Underwood led the Lady Lions with 18 points, while freshman forward Caitlyn Williams added 14 points.

Caitlyn Williams also led SLU with three steals in the loss to the Tigers. Junior forward Kyla Williams grabbed six rebounds for Southeastern, while junior guard Ashailee Brailey dished out four assists.

The Lady Lions will need to limit their turnovers as the 2017-18 season progresses. LSU scored 35 points off 30 Southeastern turnovers to pull away for the win.

Underwood leads Southeastern with 26.5 points per game through the first two games of the season. The Livingston, Louisiana native is 13th in school history with 1,094 career points and needs seven three-point field goals to become the school's career leader in that category.

Caitlyn Williams (12.5 ppg) and sophomore guard Charliee Dugas (8.0 ppg) are the other top scorers for SLU. Brailey's 3.5 assists per contest pace the squad.

Cailtyn Williams (8.0 rpg) and Kyla Williams (6.0 rpg) are the top rebounders for Southeastern. Underwood and sophomore guard Tyler Morrison share team-high honors with six steals apiece.

Cincinnati opened the season with an 87-77 loss at East Tennessee State last Friday, but bounced back with an 85-52 victory over Slippery Rock on Monday. In Monday's win, junior guard Nikira Goings (24 points), freshman forward Iimar'i Thomas (18 points) and senior guard Ana Owens (15 points) all topped double figures for the Bearcats.

Cincinnati features four players averaging in double figures. Thomas (18.5 ppg), Goings (17.5 ppg), Owens (14.0 ppg) and senior forward Shanice Johnson (14.0 ppg) lead a balanced Bearcat attack.

Johnson (8.5 rpg) and Thomas (6.5 rpg) are the top rebounders for Cincinnati, which holds a plus-12.5 rebounding margin. Johnson leads the Bearcats with 4.0 steals per game.

Wednesday is the first of three games in four days for the Lady Lions, who will compete in the Akron Classic on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, SLU will face the host Zips at 6:30 p.m. before facing Kent State at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Both tip-off times are Central and Friday's game will be televised on ESPN3.
