BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Southeastern Louisiana senior
Andre Colebrook broke a meet record and sophomore
Dekayta Alex ran the fastest 400-meter time in the Southland Conference to date in 2017 at the KMS Invitational Sunday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Southeastern was competing in its second meet of the weekend after the McNeese Invite II on Friday.
"It's been a long weekend for us," Southeastern head coach
Sean Brady said. "We had a few seasonal bests and a few personal bests. It was a great opportunity to come in and see the venue that we will be running our conference meet on (next month) and we got a chance to look at a few people in different races with a little bit better competition so we benefitted in that regard."
Colebrook was one of four athletes to eclipse the Invitational's 800 record of one minute, 53.96 seconds in placing fourth in 1:52.08. The time was an indoor personal best for Colebrook and the second-fastest in the Southland this season.
Colebrook later joined seniors
Dwayne Woodard and
Alex Holden and junior
Deandre Henderson on the third-place 4x400 relay team (3:17.16). The time was the fifth best in the Southland.
Alex won the 400 in 55.55 seconds.
Sophomore
Rodney Ruffin stretched his streak of meets with a victory to four by taking the high jump with a jump of 6 feet, 10.75 inches.
Junior
Natalia Redondo placed third in the weight throw with a mark of 53-0.75. Freshman
Ashley Davis came in fourth in the shot put at 43-05.
Freshman
Lill-Ann Hochkeppler took fifth in the 800 in 2:21.69 while senior
Kaelynn Smith was eighth in the 60 in a personal-best 7.71 seconds.
For the men, senior
Harry Wiggins placed fifth in the 3,000 in 8:49.21 while freshman
Grant O'Callaghan ran a personal-best 8:57.72 for ninth. Henderson finished eighth in 200 in 21.85 seconds.
Southeastern will again compete in two meets next week, at the LSU Bayou Bengal on Friday and the South Alabama Invitational on Sunday.
