SLU Welcomes UCA for Saturday Southland Showdown

Lions (5-3, 2-0), Bears (7-3, 2-1) meet at 11 a.m.

HAMMOND – After an impressive opening weekend of Southland Conference play, the Southeastern Louisiana women's tennis team will return home to host league rival Central Arkansas on Saturday at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.

First serve for the match between Southeastern (5-3, 2-0 Southland) and the visiting Bears (7-3, 2-1 Southland) is scheduled for 11 a.m.

Southeastern opened its league schedule with road victories over Sam Houston State and Lamar, as all six singles starters won at least one match during the weekend success. In Saturday's 4-3 win at SHSU, senior Renee Villarreal, sophomore Dalina Dahlmans and sophomore Lucia Bustamante each won. On Sunday, Villarreal, sophomore Dany Raygadas, sophomore Ceci Mercier and sophomore Madina Vorotnikova provided points in a 5-2 win over LU.

Heading into Saturday's match, Raygadas leads the team with a 5-3 singles record. Villarreal (4-2), Dahlmans (4-3), Mercier (3-5), Bustamante (3-4) and Vorotnikova (2-3) round out the Southeastern singles lineup. Villarreal is 59-8 in her Southeastern career and is eighth on the school's career singles victory list.

In doubles play, Dahlmans and Villarreal are 5-1 on the No. 1 court. All three of Southeastern's primary doubles teams have winning records this spring. On No. 2, Bustamante and Mercier are 4-2, while Raygadas and junior Margaux Kaltenbacher have a 5-3 mark on the No. 3 court.

Central Arkansas picked up Southland Conference wins over Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin last week. Sophomore Amiru Shimoguchi leads UCA with a 9-1 singles record. In doubles play, the team of freshman QiLi Ma and sophomore Rada Manataweewat boasts a team-best 7-2 record as a pairing.

Following Saturday's match, the Lions will travel to Southern on Monday for a 5 p.m. match in Baton Rouge. The match is a make-up of Thursday's postponed match between the two schools.
