Southeastern Shines at Dillard Invitational

SLU wins singles and doubles titles in second tournament of the fall

NEW ORLEANS – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team won titles in both singles and doubles play at this weekend's Dillard Invitational, which wrapped up Saturday.

In singles play, Bente Bierma and Pantchakorn Suanarsa advanced to the "A" bracket finals, while newcomers Adriana Tirado and Paige Duncan represented SLU in the "B" bracket finals.

Rather than play teammates, Southeastern's finalists shared the "A" and "B" bracket titles. Bierma and Duncan also teamed to win the doubles title, as SLU posted its second straight strong performance to start the fall after last week's solid showing at the UWF Invitational.

"It can be difficult with a short turnaround because of lack of practice time, but I was very happy with this weekend's results," Southeastern head coach Jason Hayes said. "We're working hard, improving every week and enjoying the process.

"We're very thankful for the invitation from Dillard," Hayes added. "We're fortunate to have a tournament with quality competition so close to home."

This weekend's event was the second of five this fall for the Lions. Next up is the Southland Conference Masters, scheduled for Oct. 22-25 in Natchitoches, La. Bierma and Duncan will represent SLU in the doubles bracket, while Suanarsa will compete in singles for Southeastern.
