PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team opened the fall portion of its 2025-26 schedule with a strong showing at the University of West Florida Invitational this week on the UWF campus.
Freshman
Mariam Tetradze was the highlight performer for SLU, finishing 3-0 in both singles and doubles play. Fellow freshman
Adriana Tirado and Southeastern sophomore
Aitana Darder also finished the opening tournament with 3-0 doubles marks.
Tirado, Darder and teammate
Panatchakorn Suanarsa were all 2-1 in singles play. Southeastern head coach
Jason Hayes was pleased with his team's debut.
"This was a great start to the season for us," Hayes commented. "I was happy to see the hard work pay off against some really good competition. It was fun to see the team bond and start to develop into a strong squad."
Tetradze's strong debut also earned Hayes' praise.
"We knew we had a special player in Tetra," Hayes commented. "To be able to win every match in her first tournament is something special."
Hayes also touted the team's options in doubles play. The teams of Tetradze and Tirado, Darder and
Taisia Bolsova,
Bente Bierma and
Paige Duncan, as well as Suanarsa and
Mariam Makashvili all were impressive in Pensacola.
"In my 25 years at Southeastern, we've never had four doubles teams of this caliber," Hayes commented. "We implemented everything we've been working on and we were successful. We'll have some great options as we continue the fall season."
Southeastern will return to action this weekend, heading to New Orleans for the Dillard Invitational Friday through Sunday.
