HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana softball team closed out its fall competition scheduled with two convincing victories Wednesday evening at North Oak Park.
With the two victories, Southeastern finished the fall with a 7-1 record. Southeastern head coach
Rick Fremin was pleased with what he saw from his team during the fall.
"I'm very pleased with where our team is right now," Fremin commented. "We're taking care of the ball defensively, we're starting to square up good pitches and make good decisions at the plate and our pitching staff is working together well and complementing each other's strengths.
"We have to clean up our base running," Fremin added when asked about areas his team needed to improve. "We also need to make better adjustments when there's a pitching change. In our final game tonight, we were scoring a run an inning for the first four innings, but weren't able to build on that momentum in the final couple of innings."
Southeastern opened the day's action by riding a 10-run inning to a 12-1 victory over Faulkner State Community College. Junior Mahalia Gibson led the Lions at the plate, finishing 2-for-2 with a grand slam and five RBI. Sophomore
Whitney Sullivan was also 2-for-2 with a double and three RBI, while junior
Kinsey Nichols, senior
Mychal Truxillo and freshman Ali McCoy also drove in runs for the Lady Lions, who finished with 13 hits in the win.

Carlie Whittington, sophomore
Jaquelyn Ramon and sophomore
Kameryn Fairchild each also scored runs. Junior Rachel Hayes (4.0 innings pitched, 3 strikeouts), freshman Ali McCoy (2.0 IP) and freshman Alley McDonald (1.0 IP) combined to hold Faulkner State to five hits and no earned runs.
In the nightcap, junior Lacey Hill (4.0 IP, 4 K), sophomore
Caitlyn VanHemelryck (1.0 IP), freshman Tanner Wright (1.0 IP, 1 K) and senior
Kasey Nielson (1.0 IP, 2 K) combined for a no-hitter in a 4-0 win over East Central (Miss.) Community College.
