HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana men's golf team will continue the fall portion of its 2015-16 schedule when it competes in the Windon Memorial, scheduled for Sunday and Monday at the Lake Shore Country Club in Chicago suburb Glencoe, Illinois.
The action opens with the first two rounds on Sunday with the final two rounds set for Monday. Live results, provided by Northwestern, will be accessible at LionSports.net.
Southeastern, which is ranked No. 58 in the latest GolfStat national rankings, is one of seven top 100 teams among the 14-team field that will take on the par-71, 6,844-yard course. The Lions and host Northwestern (No. 58) will be joined by No. 64 Michigan, No. 66 UC Davis, No. 68 Purdue, No. 76 Marquette and No. 93 North Texas.
Also among the field are Southeastern's Southland Conference rival Lamar, as well as Georgetown, Indiana, Loyola-Chicago, Ohio State, Princeton and Tulsa.
The Lions will be looking to build on its final two rounds at the season-opening Sam Hall Intercollegiate, which saw SLU finish seventh. After struggle to a 19-over 303 in the opening round, Southeastern bounced back with an even-par 284 in round two, before blistering the course with an 11-under par 273 over the final 18 holes. The 273 marked the second-lowest round in school history.
"We're looking forward to this tournament for multiple reasons," Southeastern head coach
Jake Narro said. "First off, Chicago will be a great place for our players to visit. It will also be a unique opportunity to play on a different surface than the Bermuda grass we normally see in our area. This will be a good opportunity for our team to play well against a very competitive field."
At the Sam Hall Intercollegiate, juniors
Gustavo Leon (T15th) and
James Anstiss (T19th) both posted top-20 finishes. Leon and Anstiss will be joined by senior
Lawrence Allan, junior
Paul Obermann and freshman
William Meyers in the lineup this week.
Following this week's action, Southeastern will close the fall on Oct. 10-11 at the David Toms Intercollegiate, hosted by reigning national champion LSU at the University Club in Baton Rouge.
