MCKINNEY, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana senior
Grady Brame was one of seven players to shoot under par on the opening day of the Southland Conference Championships on Monday at the Stonebridge Ranch Country Club.
Brame fired an opening-round 71 to help Southeastern to sit in fourth place after the tournament's first 18 holes. The Lions finished with a 16-over par 304 on Monday. SLU is six strokes behind third-place Houston Baptist and has a four-stroke lead over fifth-place New Orleans.
Defending Southland Conference champion Sam Houston State shot an even-par 288 to take a six-stroke opening day lead over second place McNeese State. SHSU's JT Taylor leads the individual standings with a two-under par 70. Brame is tied for second with five other players a stroke behind Taylor.
Brame was joined in the top 20 by junior
Lawrence Allan, who finished three-over par on Monday. His 75 left him in a tie for 20
th.
Sophomore
James Anstiss is a stroke behind Allan in a tie for 23
rd after an opening-round 76. Junior
Eamon Bradley (T40th, +10) and sophomore
Paul Obermann (T42nd, +11) round out the Lion lineup.
Southeastern's tee time for Tuesday's second round is 9 a.m. The Lions will play in a group that includes Stephen F. Austin and UNO. Live scoring, provided by the Southland Conference, will be available at LionSports.net.
