HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana tennis team will open Southland Conference play this weekend, hosting a pair of league opponents at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
SLU (2-1) will open the weekend with an 11 a.m. match versus league foe Sam Houston State (0-6). On Sunday, the Lions will face Lamar (3-4) at 11 a.m. before welcoming LSU-Alexandria (3-1) for a 5 p.m. match.
Southeastern is led in singles play by junior
Renee Villarreal and freshman
Lucia Bustamante. Both Lion singles players are 3-0 this spring. Freshmen
Anna Bryukhova,
Dany Raygadas and
Madina Vorotnikova each have one singles win in 2015.
At No. 2 doubles, Bustamante and Raygadas are 2-0 as a pairing. Bryukhova and Villarreal are 2-1 on the No. 1 court, while sophomores
Margaux Kaltenbacher and
Avika Sagwal have a 1-2 mark at No. 3.
Sam Houston State is led in singles play by Maddie Mortimore, who is 5-1 this spring, playing primarily at the No. 6 spot. In doubles, Mortimore and Mila Milanovic are 3-3 to lead the Bearkats.
Anna Spengler (4-3) and Hanna Elfving (3-1) are the top singles players for Lamar. In doubles play, Spengler and Stephanie Marchena have a team-best 3-1 doubles mark.
LSU-A has a pair of wins over LSU-Shreveport and a victory over Loyola (N.O.) this season. The Generals' lone loss came against Xavier (N.O.).
Following this week's action, SLU will head to Central Arkansas for a 12 p.m. match on March 14 in Conway, Arkansas.
