Tuscaloosa, AL- The Southeastern Louisiana track and field teams wrapped up a rainy, three-day competition at the John Mitchell Alabama Relays on Saturday.
Hosted by the University of Alabama, the meet featured teams from several conferences, including the SEC, SWAC, and Sunbelt.
"We got to see a lot of competition that we don't normally see," said head coach
Sean Brady. "We had a very good meet in terms of the level of competition and I thought we showed very well."
Helping lead Southeastern performances on Saturday was the women's 4x100 meter relay team. Juniors
Sharonna Williams and
Domonique White, freshman
Daijah Washington, and senior
Shanetria Thomas combined for a fourth-place time of 46.26.
"I was proud of our girls in the 4x1," said Brady. "They competed well and beat several good teams."
In the same event, the men's team placed fifth. Juniors
Raheem Brown and
Kadarius Williams, sophomore Ken Breland, and senior
Billy Minnifield combined for a time of 41.04.
Senior Bret Olsen placed sixth in the men's discus (176-02.00), while junior
Kaelynn Smith placed 12
th in the women's 100-meter dash invitational (12.29). Freshman
Clarissa Smith placed 10
th in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 1:33.12.
Other top finishers for Southeastern were: senior
Charlyn Miller (100-meter hurdles, 12
th, 14.59),
Sharon Ann Ourso (pole vault, 12
th, 11-07.75),
Katelyn Whitekiller (Pole Vault Section B, 4
th, 11-07.75),
Misha Frazier (discus, 12
th, 137-09.00), and
Alex Young (discus, 12
th, 164-02.00).
"Had it been a scored meet, I would've walked away very happy", Brady said. "I'm excited about where we are going. Moving into the month of April is our main focus, and we are coming together very well as a team."
SLU track and field will return to action March 25
th at the Texas Relays.
