Southeastern Looks to End Road Woes at Nicholls

In-state rivals clash on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Thibodaux

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team will look to end its three-game road swing on a high note when it travels to Nicholls for a 1 p.m. contest Saturday at Stopher Gymnasium.

The game between the Lady Lions (7-15, 3-8 Southland) and the host Colonels (12-10, 8-3 Southland) will be broadcast live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the Internet at www.LionSports.net, where live stats and live video (Nicholls subscription required) will also be available.

Southeastern enters Saturday's contest a game and a half out of eighth place with seven games remaining in the regular season. The top eight teams will advance to next month's Southland Conference Tournament in Katy, Texas.

SLU's rally fell just short in a 66-62 loss to McNeese State on Thursday in Lake Charles. MSU used a 59-39 rebounding advantage to hand the Lady Lions their third straight loss and drop Southeastern to 0-11 in road games this season.

In the loss, SLU junior guard Peaches Anderson led all players with 16 points. Senior forward Jameika Hoskins added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Lions. Senior guard Elizabeth Styles matched Hoskins' team-high rebound total, while also dishing out a game-high six assists.

Senior guard Symone Miller leads the Lady Lions with 12.0 points per game and is joined in double figures by junior forward Nanna Pool (11.4 ppg) and Styles (10.4 ppg). Miller (37 points away) and Styles (49 points away) are closing in on reaching 1,000 career points. In conference play, Anderson (10.5 ppg) and junior guard Erica Hernandez (10.4 ppg) are the top scorers for SLU.

Styles continues to be the primary playmaker for SLU, leading the Southland Conference with 6.2 assists per game. On Thursday, the Savannah, Georgia native ran her career assist total to 454, passing former teammate Kelli Jenkins for fourth place on the school's career list. Styles is within striking distance of becoming the first player in school history to top both 1,000 career points and 500 career assists.

Pool (9.0 rpg, 3rd) and Hoskins (7.8 rpg, 8th) are among the Southland Conference's top rebounders. Pool's 681 career rebounds are the eighth-most in school history.

On the defensive end, Pool leads the team with 27 blocked shots, while Styles (33) and Hoskins (33) are the team leaders in steals. Styles' 148 steals are seventh on the program's career list.

Nicholls is one of the Southland's hottest teams, having won its last five games. Jenny Nash (13.7 ppg) and Emani White (10.6 ppg) are the top scorers for the Colonels. Nash also leads the team with 5.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists per contest.

Southeastern is 57-16 all-time versus its in-state rival. Last season, the two teams split with both teams winning on their home court.

Following Saturday's game, Southeastern will return home to host UNO on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the University Center. Thursday's game will be broadcast live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the Internet at www.LionSports.net, where live video (LionVision subscription required) and live stats will be accessible.

Thursday's game will be the Play4Kay game dedicated to breast cancer awareness. The Cane's Challenge will also be in effect on Thursday, as if the Lady Lions score over 60 points versus the Privateers, fans can take their ticket or coupon to participating Raising Cane's by the end of business on Friday to receive a free combo with the purchase of a combo of equal or greater value.

Hoskins will be Thursday's Spotlight Player of the Game. The first 100 fans will receive a trading card of the Aberdeen, Mississippi native courtesy of PRIDE.
