SLU Pulls Away for 69-54 Exhibition Victory over Millsaps

Southeastern uses balanced attack to outlast Majors in tune-up for regular season

HAMMOND, La. – The reigning Southland Conference Tournament regular season champion Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team pulled away in the second half for a 69-54 exhibition victory over Millsaps Tuesday night in the University Center.

The Lady Lions outscored the visitors, 42-27, after the break to claim the exhibition win for first-year head coach Jeff Dow.

Lihi Azouri led three SLU players in double figures with 16 points, while Aliyah Collins added 15 for the Lady Lions. Eryn McKinzie chipped in with 14 points to go with a team-high 10 rebounds in a double-double effort. Taylor Ross narrowly missed a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds, while Mia Ramos also added eight points.

Southeastern finished with 12 assists versus just 11 turnovers, as McKinzie and Natalie Huff dished out three assists apiece. The Lady Lions forced Millsaps into 16 turnovers with Collins (two steals) and Fatime Seck (two blocks) leading the Lady Lion defensive effort.

Millsaps was led by Elyse Warren's double-double performance, as the senior finished with a game-high 30 points and 14 rebounds. Garin Freeman led the Majors with 13 assists.

Neither team could gain a firm advantage in the opening half, as the teams went into the break tied, 27-27. SLU gained control late in the third quarter, closing the period with a 9-0 run to take a 47-39 advantage into the fourth quarter.

Back-to-back Collins buckets to open the fourth quarter stretched the lead to 12. Millsaps would get no closer than eight the rest of the way to close out the win.

Southeastern will officially open the 2025-26 season Nov. 3, hosting Centenary at 11 a.m. in the University Center. The season opener will be televised on ESPN+.
