Nanna Pool posted a double-double, as the Lady Lions defeated conference opponent Houston Baptist University, 67-59, on Saturday night in the University Center.
Styles posted a team-high 16 points and was joined in double figures by
Nanna Pool (12 points),
Peaches Anderson (11 points),
Jameika Hoskins (14 rebounds), and
Erica Hernandez (10 points). Hernandez led the Lady Lions with two three-pointers and five assists.
Junior guard Rachel Arthur led the Huskies with 18 points. Junior forward Anna Strickland led HBU with 13 rebounds and 4 assists.
After only ten minutes of play, Southeastern (6-8 overall, 2-1 SLC) boasted a score tripling that of the Huskies, 24-7. But HBU answered with an 8-point streak, as SLU didn't score for nearly five minutes. The Huskies made up for the slow start, heading into halftime trailing 32-23 and staying within four points of the Lady Lions early in the second half.
In a tight final minute of play, Southeastern expanded their one-point lead (60-59) at the foul line, as senior guards
Elizabeth Styles and Anessa De La Cruz made back-to-back trips to the charity stripe. The Huskies, who dropped to 0-4 in Southland play with the loss, sent the Lady Lions to the line a total of 19 times in the contest.
After a two games on the road, the Lady Lions will return home on January 22
