HUNTSVILLE, Texas – With one month remaining until the Southland Conference Tournament, Southeastern Louisiana heads to Sam Houston State for a key conference matchup Friday through Sunday at Don Sanders Stadium.
Southeastern (27-14, 12-6 Southland) is tied with Nicholls State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi atop the Southland standings, two games in front of Sam Houston (27-14, 10-8 Southland). The Bearkats are tied with Central Arkansas, Lamar, McNeese State and Northwestern State for fourth place.
The top eight teams will make the conference tournament, May 21-24, at Bear Stadium in Conway, Ark.

Despite dropping a game at Jackson State the last time out, Southeastern has won eight of its last 10 games and is tied with the Bearkats for the best overall record in the Southland.

Kennon Menard (.301) lead Southeastern at the plate. Godbold's six home runs lead the team and his 39 RBIs are a conference best. Hoffman owns a team-high 12 doubles and his 27 RBIs are the second-most on the ballclub.
Jacob Williams' 12 stolen bases leads the team.
The Lions are hitting .277 as team and have been successful on 64-of-100 stolen base attempts. Southeastern's pitching staff has compiled a 2.78 ERA, second-lowest in the Southland, fanning 291 batters in 366 innings pitched.
Junior right-hander
Andro Cutura (7-1, 1.74) earns the series opening start for the Lions, drawing junior righty Tyler Eppler (4-5 4.45) for the Bearkats. Cutura leads the conference, and is 12th nationally, with 76 strikeouts. He is tied for the conference lead in wins (seven) and complete games (three).
Saturday, the Lions will send sophomore right-hander
Tate Scioneaux (6-3, 2.97) to the mound. Sam Houston has not announced a starting pitcher for Saturday's contest and neither school has decided on a starter for the series finale.
Anthony Azar (.365), Colt Atwood (.351) and Carter Burgess (.325) lead Sam Houston at the plate. Azar is tied for the conference lead with eight home runs and his 33 RBIs are the best on ballclub. Burgess owns a team-high 12 doubles. Ryan Farney's 10 stolen bases leads the team.
The Bearkats are hitting .287 as a team, fourth-best in the Southland, and have been successful on 37-of-44 stolen base attempts. Their 24 home runs are a conference best. Sam Houston's pitching staff has compiled a 3.06 ERA, third-best behind the Lions, fanning 234 batters in 367.2 innings of work.
Sam Houston defeated the No. 12-ranked Cougars of the University of Houston this past Tuesday after dropping two-of-three to Lamar last weekend.
Southeastern returns home Tuesday to host the No. 2-ranked Ragin' Cajuns of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
