NEW ORLEANS, La. – One game out of first place in the Southland Conference, Southeastern Louisiana faces in-state rival, and conference newcomer, New Orleans in a three-game series Thursday through Saturday that will have games played on the campuses of both schools.
Thursday the series opens with a 6:30 p.m. contest at UNO's Maestri Field. Friday the series moves to Southeastern's Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field for a 6 p.m. first pitch and then returns to Maestri Field Saturday at 1 p.m. to wrap up.
All three games can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 FM, online and either the KSLU or TuneIn Radio smartphone apps. Southeastern (24-13, 9-6 Southland) has won eight of its last 10 games and shut out South Alabama, 5-0, this past Tuesday in Mobile, Ala.
Jameson Fisher (.353),
Andrew Godbold (.338),
Kevin Carr (.308) and
Brett Hoffman (.301) lead Southeastern at the plate. Hoffman owns a team-high 11 doubles and his 23 RBIs are tied with Fisher for the second-most on the ballclub. Godbold's three home runs lead the team and he is second in the conference with 32 RBIs.
The Lions are hitting .280 as team and have been successful on 59-of-91 stolen base attempts. Southeastern's pitching staff has compiled a 2.77 ERA, third-lowest in the Southland, fanning 265 batters in 331 innings pitched.
Junior right-hander
Kyle Keller (3-2, 2.89) earns the series opening start for the Lions, drawing junior righty Alex Smith (1-5, 4.01) for the Privateers. Friday the Lions will send junior right-hander
Andro Cutura (6-1, 1.99) to the mound against UNO right-hander Nick Halliday (2-4, 3.35). Sophomore right-hander
Tate Scioneaux (5-3, 3.02) draws the starting nod for Southeastern in Saturday's series finale. The Privateers have not announced a starter for the final game.
Samuel Capielano (.355) and Reese Kanter (.315) lead the Privateers at the plate. Hezekiah Randolph has knocked a team-high four home runs and driven in 26 runs. UNO is hitting .242 as a team and has been successful on 17-of-28 stolen base attempts. The pitching staff has worked to a 4.41 ERA, fanning 177 batters in 298 innings pitched.
UNO (10-23, 2-13 Southland) was swept in a three-game series last weekend by Lamar.
