HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana sent 10 batters to the plate in the seventh inning Friday, pushing across five runs en route to taking the series opener from George Washington, 6-1, at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

Southeastern (3-2) right-hander Andro Cutura (1-0) was dominant for the second-consecutive start. The junior from Pearl River, La., allowed one unearned run in seven innings of work, surrendering just two hits and fanning four.

Caught in a low-scoring game, Cutura held the Colonials (1-1) at bay until Southeastern could grab the lead.

GWU scored an unearned run in the second. Second baseman Owen Beightol led off the inning with an infield single and promptly stole second. With one out, Kevin Mahala grounded to shortstop, but Jacob Williams throw was wide of the bag allowing Beightol to score from second.

The Lions tied the game up, 1-1, in the third. Williams smacked a one-out double over the head of the Colonial right fielder Andrew Selby. Following a two-out intentional walk to Jameson Fisher, Andrew Godbold produced the first of his three hits in the game, singling up the middle to drive in Williams.

Southeastern stranded four runners over the next three innings before finally breaking through in the seventh.

Williams led off the inning by drawing a walk and stealing second. Jesse Buratt laid down a sacrifice bunt that was mishandled by the third baseman, moving Williams to third and allowing Buratt to reach safely. Fisher drove in Williams with a single to right, giving the Lions a 2-1 lead.

Following a pitching change, Andrew Godbold drove a pitch down the right-field line for a two-run triple. Kyle Cedotal was hit by a pitch, putting runners on the corners. Kevin Carr produced his second hit of the game, an RBI single, to drive in Godbold.

With one out, Webb Bobo was hit by a pitch to load the bases and force another GWU pitching change. Jacob Seward's grounder to second plated Cedotal for the final run of the inning.

Godbold finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs while Carr and Fisher each produced a pair of hits.

John Gremillion and Gage Pickett each tossed a scoreless inning in relief to close out the game.

Saturday's game, which includes baseball-themed bingo, is slated for 2 p.m. The Lions will send sophomore right-hander Tate Scioneaux (1-0, 0.00), a member of the Southland's preseason All-Conference second team, to the mound against GWU southpaw Max Kaplow (2-4, 3.47 in 2013).
