Lions Pound Out 15-6 Win At Louisiana Tech

Williams steals home as part of triple steal

Box Score

RUSTON, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana baseball team broke out the bats Saturday, defeating Louisiana Tech, 15-6, at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.

Southeastern (2-0) swung the bat well, pounding out 14 hits, but the Lions were also aided by eight walks and tied a school single-game record with seven batters hit by pitches. In the season opener Tech pitchers hit five batters, including Andrew Godbold three times to tie an individual Lion single-game record.

The Lions scored multiple runs in the second as well as fourth through eighth innings. Tech (0-2) scratched across a pair of runs in the eighth and four more in the ninth.

Helping break open a 2-0 game in the fourth inning, Southeastern executed a triple steal with Jacob Williams swiping home.

Kevin Carr singled to right field to open the fourth, moving to second when Williams was hit by a pitch. With two outs, Jesse Buratt drew a walk to load the bases. Jameson Fisher was hit by a pitch to force in Carr and send the Bulldogs to the bullpen. The Lions greeted reliever Mark Baughman with the triple steal.

Carr led Southeastern at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Buratt, Fisher, and Williams each recorded a pair of hits.

Sophomore Tate Scioneaux (1-0) earned the win with six shutout innings of work, retiring the final 11 batters he faced. Freshman right-hander Gage Pickett worked the seventh and eighth innings for the Lions while sophomore right-hander John Gremillion handled the ninth.

Junior right-hander Kyle Keller (0-0, 1.38 in 2013) draws the starting nod for Southeastern in Sunday's series finale as the Lions go for the series sweep against Bulldog right-hander Richie Navari (1-6, 6.52 in 2013).

The Lions return home to face preseason No. 3-ranked LSU, Wednesday, at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field, opening a five-game homestand that also features games against George Washington and Grambling State.
