HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team will close out its non-conference home schedule on Saturday, when it hosts Florida A&M at 2 p.m. in the University Center.
The game between SLU (3-6) and the visiting Rattlers (3-5) will be broadcast live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the Internet at
www.LionSports.net, where live stats and live video (LionVision subscription required) will also be available.
Sophomore guard Bre' Warren will be Saturday's Spotlight Player of the Game. The first 100 fans will receive a trading card featuring the Slidell, Louisiana native courtesy of PRIDE.
In addition, fans who purchase a ticket to Friday's men's basketball game versus Winthrop can exchange that ticket for a free general admission to Saturday's contest.
Southeastern will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak. The Lady Lions played their last three games away from home against SEC opponents, falling to Auburn, No. 23/25 Mississippi State and LSU.
SLU enters the game averaging 59.4 points per game. Senior guard
Symone Miller leads the team with 14.1 points per contest and is joined in double figures by junior forward
Nanna Pool (13.0 ppg). Senior guard
Elizabeth Styles follows with 9.7 points per game and is averaging a team-high 5.8 assists per outing.
The Lady Lions are currently pulling down 39.3 rebounds per contest and has a minus-3.8 rebounding margin. Pool is nearly averaging a double-double with a team-high 9.9 rebounds per game. Senior forward
Jameika Hoskins (7.7 rpg) has also been effective on the glass for SLU.
Defensively, the Lady Lions are allowing 73.6 points and forcing 13.1 turnovers per game. Styles leads the team with 2.0 steals per game, while Pool has blocked a team-high 14 shots.
Several SLU players continue to climb various school career lists. Pool is 11
th in school history with 572 career rebounds, while Styles is among the program's best in assists (369, 7
th) and steals (133, 9
th). Miller is 78 points away from becoming the 19
th student-athlete to reach 1,000 career points and is ninth in school history with 83 three-point field goals.
FAMU had its two-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday, falling, 80-69, at Southern. Senior guard Tanekia Rubin leads the team with 10.5 ppg, followed by sophomore Kenya Dixon (10.0 ppg), junior forward Olivia Antilla (9.8 ppg) and junior guard Khadejra Young (9.4 ppg). Young also leads the team with 6.4 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 3.1 steals per game.
Southeastern is 1-3 all-time versus Florida A&M. The last meeting came at FAMU during the 2012-13 season with SLU earning a 62-59 victory.
Following Saturday's contest, Southeastern will take a break to celebrate Christmas. On Dec. 29, SLU will close out its non-conference schedule with a 6 p.m. game at Ole Miss. The game will be the return of SLU head coach
Yolanda Moore to Oxford, where she was a three-time All-SEC forward for the Rebels and earned a spot in the Ole Miss Sports Hall of Fame.
