Lady Lions Welcome In-State Foe Louisiana-Lafayette

SLU looks to improve to 3-0 at home

HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team will continue its three-game home stand on Saturday, when it hosts in-state rival Louisiana-Lafayette in a 2 p.m. non-conference contest at the University Center.
 
LionVision subscribers will be able to access a live video stream of the game between the Lady Lions (2-2) and the visiting Ragin' Cajuns (3-0) at LionSports.net, where live stats will be available. Junior guard Erica Hernandez is Saturday's Spotlight Player of the Game and the first 100 fans will receive trading cards featuring the Floresville, Texas native courtesy of PRIDE.
 
Southeastern is coming off a dominant 74-47 victory over Mobile on Tuesday night in the University Center. Senior forward Jameika Hoskins (13 points, career-high 15 rebounds) and junior forward Nanna Pool (18 points, 10 rebounds) each posted double-doubles for SLU, which finished with a 46-32 rebounding advantage.
 
Hoskins and Pool were joined in double figures by senior guard Symone Miller and junior guard Peaches Anderson, who finished with 16 and 10 points, respectively. Senior guard Elizabeth Styles ran the show, dishing out a season-high 10 assists.
 
Southeastern enters Saturday's contest, averaging 72.8 points per game as a team. Pool leads the team with 17.0 points per game. Miller (15.0 ppg) and Styles (12.3 ppg) join Pool in double figures, while Anderson (8.3 ppg) and Hoskins (8.0 ppg) round out the top scorers. Styles also paces the squad with 6.8 assists per contest.
 
The Lady Lions are averaging 43.8 rebounds per game and are even in rebounding margin through the first four games of 2014-15. The tandem of Hoskins (9.3 rpg) and Pool (7.8 rpg) has been effective on the boards.
 
SLU has yielded 78.0 points and forced 13.5 turnovers per game this season. Miller leads the team with seven steals, while she and Pool have each blocked three shots.
Louisiana-Lafayette comes to town undefeated and is playing its second game versus a Southland Conference school this season. The Ragin' Cajuns opened the season with a 75-55 victory at SLU's league rival Lamar, before returning home to defeat Xavier (N.O.), 69-53, and Louisiana Tech, 58-55.
 
Sophomore guard Jaylyn Gordon leads the team with 15.0 points per game and is joined in double figures by junior guards Keke Veal (13.3 ppg) and Kia Wilridge (11.0 ppg). Junior forward Adrienne Prejean (7.3 rpg) and freshman forward Simone Fields (7.0 rpg) are the top rebounders for the Ragin' Cajuns. Wilridge leads Louisiana-Lafayette with 4.0 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Ragin' Cajuns have held opponents to 54.3 points per game and forced 17.7 turnovers per contest. Sophomore wing Gabby Alexander leads Louisiana-Lafayette with 2.0 steals per game.
 
Southeastern is 29-14 all-time versus its in-state rivals. Last season in Lafayette, the Lady Lions dropped a 66-53 decision.
 
The Lady Lions will conclude its home stand on Tuesday, when it hosts William Carey at 7 p.m. in the University Center. Sophomore forward Gabriella Delaune will be Tuesday's Spotlight Player of the Game and the first 100 fans will receive a trading card featuring the Harahan, Louisiana native courtesy of PRIDE. Tuesday will also be the Toys for Tots game, as any fan who brings a toy to donate will receive free admission to Tuesday's game.
