Top Lion Moments of 2012-13: #2 Lion Golf Tops the Southland

Baldwin's squad earned fourth consecutive NCAA tournament berth

The 2013-14 Southeastern Athletics season will officially begin in early August when the football, volleyball, soccer and cross country teams report to campus. In preparation for the upcoming year, LionSports.net takes one last look at the 2012-13 season, counting down the top 13 moments in Southeastern Athletics from the previous year.

The countdown continues with No. 2, as we look back at the 2013 Southland Conference champion Southeastern men's golf team returning to the top of the league.

On April 24, the Southeastern Louisiana men's golf team earned its fourth consecutive NCAA Regional trip by winning the Southland Conference Tournament. Southeastern, which carded a team score of even-par 288 in the final round to finish at 893 for the 54-hole event, finished 13 strokes ahead of Central Arkansas and claimed the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals that are scheduled for May 16-18. The Lions, who earned their fourth Southland Conference title since 1998, will make their seventh overall appearance in the NCAA Regionals and fifth since 2007.

The win by the Lions was culminated by the play of Rhys West who fired a 1-under-par 71 and erased a one-stroke deficit in the final three holes to post a two-shot victory over UCA's Pep Angles. West, the team's lone senior, earned his first career victory at the collegiate level with a 4-over 220 for the tournament while leading a young squad that saw four players finish in the top six.
