Unbeaten Southeastern Looks to Close Pre-Southland Slate on High Note

7-0 Lions face Southern at 11 a.m. and Xavier (N.O.) at 4 p.m.

HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana tennis team will be back in action on Sunday, closing out its pre-Southland Conference season with matches versus in-state foes Southern and Xavier (N.O.) at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.

The Lions (7-0) will open the day with an 11 a.m. match versus Southern (5-4). Later in the day, Southeastern will face XU (4-4) at 4 p.m.

Southeastern is coming off a 6-1 home victory over Southern Miss on Thursday. Freshman Reginka Nychytailova, freshman Nastya Tokareva, freshman Sarah Kriem, freshman Renee Villarreal and senior Isabel Brito all picked up singles victories in the win for the Lions.

Southeastern features four singles starters with perfect singles records. Tokareva (7-0), Kriem (5-0), Villarreal (5-0) and Brito (4-0) all have yet to drop a singles match this spring. Nychytailova (6-1) and junior Valya Rusakova (5-2) have also been impressive in singles play.

In doubles action, the Lions are a perfect 10-0 this spring. Villarreal and sophomore Adriana Castillo are a team-best 4-0 predominantly at No. 3, while Kriem and Nychytailova are 3-0 as a team. The tandem of Rusakova and Nychytailova are 2-0 on the year.

Southern has won five in a row after Friday's 6-3 win over Xavier (N.O.). The Lions defeated Southern, 5-1, back on Feb. 6 in Baton Rouge. All four of XU's losses this spring have come versus Division I opponents.

Following Sunday's action, Southeastern will return to action on Friday, opening Southland Conference play with a 1 p.m. match at Oral Roberts in Tulsa, Okla.
