Islanders Rally to Eliminate SLU from Southland Tournament

Southeastern finishes the season 14-9 overall

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the quarterfinals of the Southland Conference Championships Sunday afternoon at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.

Southeastern won the doubles point, but the Islanders came back in singles play. SLU closes the spring with a 14-9 record. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (17-4) moves on to face Northwestern State in Monday's semifinals at 2 p.m.

The Lions took the early lead in doubles play. On court 3, the Southeastern freshman pair of Mariam Tetradze and Adriana Tirado (11-7) shut out Josefa Fuenzalida and Juliette Jalai, 6-0. Second team All-SLC selections Aitana Darder and Taisia Bolsova (13-8) clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Adri Jimenez Casado and Viktoria Sedova on No. 2.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi flipped the script in singles play. The Islanders earned straight-set victories on courts 2, 3, 5 and 6 to advance to the SLC semifinals.

Southeastern will lose Southland Newcomer of the Year Paige Duncan and Panatchakorn Suanarsa from this year's team. The nucleus of the 2025-26 roster will return, however, and SLU will be bringing in three talented freshman in Kennedy Hutto, Gabrielle Rice and Jastine Escamos.
