HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team closed out the fall portion of its 2026-27 schedule with a strong showing at the George E. Fourmaux Fed Cup Invitational Friday at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.

Southeastern opened the day with a 6-0 victory over Loyola (N.O.), followed with a 3-2 win over Southland Conference foe Lamar, before splitting a pair of doubles matches with Dillard to close the successful day. The annual event is named for Fourmaux, a former SLU assistant coach who lost his battle with cancer in 2016.

"This was a good day to remember George and play some quality tennis," Lion head coach Jason Hayes commented. "We can build on the positive results heading into the spring. We want to thank Lamar, Loyola and Dillard for joining us for today's event."

Southeastern finished a combined 7-2 in singles play Friday, as Mariam Makashvili and Mariam Tetradze both earned a pair of singles victories. Bente Bierma, Jastine Escamos and Aitana Darder also claimed singles triumphs Saturday.

SLU was also 3-2 in doubles play in the fall finale. Gabrielle Rice teamed with both Makashvili and Kennedy Hutto for doubles wins, while Bierma and Escamos earned a triumph in doubles action as well.

The Lions opens the spring portion of its 2026-27 slate Jan. 29, hosting UL Lafayette at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
