NEW ORLEANS, La. – On a cold and blustery day, the Southeastern Louisiana University track and field teams finished top three in the Tulane Team Challenge Saturday at Tad Gormley Stadium.
The Lady Lions finished second out of six teams (83 points) and the men placed third out of six (76 points). Four Southeastern athletes brought home individual victories.
For the Lady Lions,
Ikea Kaufman won the women's high jump (five feet, 3.00 inches) while
Tess Mullings claimed victory in the 100-meter hurdles (15.51 seconds). Freshman
Shaun Lowe won the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.22 seconds while
Bryceston Walker placed first in the triple jump (41-05.25).
Alicia Noel, a Baton Rouge native, finished second in the women's 400-meter hurdles (1:07.55) and senior
Bethany Burst placed second in the 2,000-meter steeplechase (9:35.80).
Heather Fitzhenry finished third in the steeplechase (9:58.01). Other third place finishes for the Lady Lions included Mullings in the 400-meter hurdles (1:08.52),
Brookais Milton in the triple jump (34-01.50) and
Larrion Weatherspoon in the 100-meter hurdles (17.10 seconds).
For the men, jumpers
Clarence Robinson and
Brandon Daniels came in second in their respective events. Robinson, a freshman, turned in a mark of six feet, 1.25 inches in the high jump. Daniels turned in a mark off 22 feet, 6.5 inches in the long jump. Freshman
Christian Chapman also finished second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.15 seconds.
In addition to winning the men's triple jump, Walker also placed third in the long jump (21-11.00).
The men's 4x400-meter relay team of
Brendon Mitchell,
Billy Minnifield,
Stephen Hepburn and
Tremayne Daniels placed third (3:45.52).
Southeastern returns to action Saturday in Lake Charles, La., at the McNeese Cowboy Relays/Bob Hayes Louisiana Challenge.
