Southeastern Rolls to 7-0 Record With 6-1 Victory Over USM

Undefeated Lions host Southern (11 a.m.) and Xavier-N.O. (4 p.m.)

HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana tennis team remained undefeated in 2013, rolling past Southern Miss, 6-1, Thursday afternoon at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
 
The Lions ran their record to 7-0 with the victory. Southeastern took two doubles matches and five singles matches to remain unbeaten this spring. Southern Miss dropped to 0-9 overall with the loss.
 
Southeastern opened the match by quickly taking the doubles point. On the No. 3 court, the Lion duo of sophomore Adriana Castillo and freshman Renee Villarreal pushed its team-best doubles record to 4-0 with an 8-0 victory over Macie Case and Emily Nettles. Shortly thereafter, freshmen Sarah Kriem and Reginka Nychytailova clinched the doubles point for Southeastern, moving to 3-0 with an 8-1 triumph over Alexus Coats and Elanor Grossman.
 
Villarreal (5-0) quickly made it 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Case on the No. 5 singles court. At No. 6, senior Isabel Brito (4-0) remained undefeated in singles play, cruising past Nettles, 6-0, 6-0 to push the Southeastern lead to 3-0.
 
Freshman Nastya Tokareva clinched the match for Southeastern at No. 2, rolling past Kate Lanier for a 6-2, 6-1 triumph and pushing her team-best singles mark to 7-0. Mackenzie Oskin was no match for Kriem (5-0) at No. 4, falling 6-1, 6-1, to the Lion freshman.
 
After USM picked up its lone point at No. 3, Nychytailova (6-1) closed out the win for the Lions on the No. 1 court. The Maripol, Ukraine native bounced back from a set down to defeat Coats, 3-6, 6-2, 12-10 to provide the final 7-0 victory.
 
Southeastern will be back in action on Sunday, hosting a pair of in-state rivals. The Lions will take on Southern at 11 a.m. and Xavier (N.O.) at 4 p.m.
