THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Junior
Rhys West carded a 4-under-par 68 to overcome a subpar first round and the Southeastern Louisiana University golf team finished in a seventh-place tie after the first day of The Woodlands All-American Intercollegiate on Monday at The Woodlands Country Club.

Southeastern, ranked No. 60 in the latest GolfStat.com national rankings, posted rounds of 290 and 286 to finish tied with No. 27 Baylor for seventh after the first two rounds. No. 10-ranked Arkansas paced the field with rounds of 280 and 276 to finish at 556, four strokes ahead of North Texas and six in front of No. 14-ranked Texas A&M. SMU (571) and host Houston (574) rounded out the top five with Clemson (575), Baylor, Southeastern, Tulsa (579) and Louisiana-Lafayette (580) finishing sixth through 10th, respectively.
West, who fired a 5-over-par 77 in the opening round, came back in the afternoon to equal his lowest round of the year to finish tied for 33rd overall at 145.
Philipp Westermann led Southeastern in the first 36 holes, posting rounds of 70 and 72 to finish tied for 15th at 142.
Baptiste Courtachon carded rounds of 71 and 73 to finish tied for 26th at 144.
Freshman
Santiago Mejia bounced back from an opening round of 6-over 78 with a 1-over 73 to finish tied for 64th at 151. Freshman
Grady Brame opened the day with an even-par 72 before slipping in the afternoon to an 81 to finish at 153.
Texas A&M's Geoff Shaw fired rounds of 69 and 67 to finish in first place after 36 holes at 136 – one stroke ahead of Arkansas' Kolton Crawford. Sebastian Cappelen of Arkansas tied a tournament record with a second-round 65 – the seventh player in tournament history to shoot a 65 and joining a list that includes former Texas All-American and PGA standout Tom Kite, who posted a 65 in 1972.
