Former Lions Allan and Brame Jr. Capture USGA U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship

Current SLU golf coach and fellow former Southeastenr standout win final match, 4 and 3

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Southeastern Louisiana University head men's golf coach Lawrence Allan and his fellow former Lion golf star Grady Brame Jr. teamed to win the 2026 USGA U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship, which wrapped up Wednesday at Desert Mountain Club.

Allan, who just finished his fourth season at the helm of the golf program at his alma mater, and Brame Jr., a Hammond, La. native, defeated the pair of Jonathan Bale and Tomi Bowen, 4 and 3, to complete the run that started Saturday.

The pair of former Lion standouts qualified for the field of 32 with back-to-back rounds of 67 in stroke play. In both of the first two rounds, Allan and Brame Jr. had to birdie the first playoff hole to advance.

The duo played their best golf of the week in the quarterfinals, taking a 4 and 3 decision over Jeremy Defalco and Bryan Hoops to move on. Allan and Brame Jr. tied the semifinals with a birdie on the 16th hole. They matched pars with Bobby and Cody Massa until the fourth playoff hole, where a birdie sent the Southeastern tandem into the finals.

In the finals, Allan and Brame Jr. fell behind after the first hole, but quickly squared the match on the second hole. A birdie on the seventh hole gave SLU the lead for good, then the Lion pair moved to 3 up with consecutive birdies to open the back nine.

Bale and Bowen pulled within two with a birdie on the 13th hole, but would get no closer. Back-to-back birdies on the 14th and 15th hole gave Allan and Brame Jr. the title.

Brame, who starred for the Lions from 2011-15, was a two-time Louisiana Amateur champion during his Southeastern career. A three-time All-Southland and All-Louisiana selection, Brame represented SLU as an individual in the NCAA Regionals in the 2013-14 season.

Allan, who hails from Alva, Scotland, was also a three-time All-Southland Conference selection for Southeastern during his playing career that spanned 2012-16. He and Brame were two of the top players for the 2014-15 SLC champions that finished in ninth place at that season's Lubbock Regional.
