Lions close home schedule vs. UCA on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Box Score

HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana senior Audrey Chelini won her team-high 10th singles match of the spring, but it was not enough as Northwestern State defeated the Lions, 6-1, in Southland Conference women's tennis action Saturday afternoon at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.

The Lions fell to 9-11 overall and 1-9 in Southland Conference play with the loss. Northwestern State ran its record to 13-4 and 6-3 in league action.

Northwestern State took an early lead by sweeping the doubles point. The most competitive match was on the No. 3 court, where NSU freshmen Linda Gamo and Amy Williams outlasted the Southeastern pair of senior Morgane Dadot and freshman Morgane Charpenne by a score of 8-6.

Two of the singles matches advanced to a super tie-breaker. At No. 1, Chelini got past Lady Demon senior Olga Bazhanova, 6-3, 3-6, 14-12. The win was the 50th singles win of the Bordeaux, France native's career, moving her into sole possession of 10th place on the school's career list.

The other tight singles match was on the No. 6 court. Southeastern junior Isabel Brito took the opening set, but saw Gamo rally for a 2-6, 7-5, 10-4 win. The Lady Demons won the other four singles matches in straight sets to take the victory.

Southeastern will close out its home and Southland Conference schedules on Sunday, hosting Central Arkansas at 11 a.m. at the Southeastern Tennis Complex. Sunday will be the final match for Lion seniors Chelini and Dadot.
