TREASURE ISLAND, Fla. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team continued its hot start to the spring portion of its 2026 schedule, rolling to a 9-0 nonconference victory over St. Petersburg College Friday afternoon at Treasure Bay.
Southeastern (6-0) swept through singles and doubles play to improve to 6-0 this spring. With the game played at SPC's home court, the match was played under junior college scoring rules.
"Thanks to St. Petersburg for hosting us after we had a cancellation," Southeastern head coach
Jason Hayes said. "We had a long travel day yesterday, so for our team to come out and play at high level took a special effort."
In doubles play,
Bente Bierma and
Panatchakorn Suanarsa (2-0), as well as
Adriana Tirado and
Mariam Tetradze (6-0) remained unbeaten for SLU on courts 1 and 3, respectively. The Lion pair of
Taisia Bolsova and
Aitana Darder (5-1) completed the sweep with an 8-1 win on No. 2.
In singles play, Bierma (2-1), Tetradze (5-0), Tirado (6-0), Bolsova (3-0) and
Mariam Makashvili (5-0) all picked up straight-set victories for Southeastern. Suanarsa (4-1) completed the sweep with a 7-6, 5-7, 10-6 win over Dani Vivas Valencia.
SLU will close out its Florida trip with an 8 a.m. (CST) match Monday at Florida Gulf Coast.
"FGCU will provide a tough test," Hayes commented. "But we're playing with a lot of confidence and are looking forward to the challenge."
