HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana's two-match conference win streak came to an end in volleyball on Thursday as Oral Roberts defeated the Lady Lions, 21-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-20.
Freshman
Veronica Turk led Southeastern with 12 kills (.216 attack percentage), recording her 10th double-digit effort of the season. Seniors
Tamra Grayson and
Courtney Donald each contributed nine.
Grayson led the way, hitting .800 with four kills, and junior
Megan McMillin recorded nine of her 14 digs in the first set for the Lady Lions (8-13, 3-8 Southland).
Southeastern's best hitting performance (.212 attack percentage) came in the second set, but could not get the kills to fall. The tightest set of the match, it contained 13 ties and six different lead changes.
Down the stretch Oral Roberts (9-12, 5-5 Southland) took advantage of offensive woes by the Lady Lions. Southeastern hit .000 in the third and .091 in the fourth set.
Sheina Fernandes led three Golden Eagles into double-digit kills (13), including Jessica Pancratz (12) and Tatum Fredeen (10). Laura Taylor dished out 45 assists while Bruna Silva (25) and Kyle Johnson (16) posted double-digit digs.
Senior
Becky Bekelja handed 33 assists for Southeastern and McMillin led the Lady Lions in digs (14). Bekelja,
Taylor Buckner and
Cherish Krohn each added nine digs.
Donald posted three solo blocks, four total, and is one solo block shy of tying for 10th-place on the Southeastern career list.
The Lady Lions host the first-place Sugar Bears of Central Arkansas at 2 p.m. Saturday.
