HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University Volleyball team closed its five-match homestand Tuesday, falling to UL Lafayette in a four-set match, 20-25, 27-25, 25-12, 25-17, in the University Center.
Southeastern (3-7) faced the Ragin' Cajuns (4-6) for the second time this season. The Lions played a dominant opening set, continuing into the second set. UL Lafayette, however, managed to find its footing near the end of the second set, before claiming the third and fourth sets.
Kyra McKelvey led the Lions with 16 kills against the Ragin' Cajuns, notching her eighth straight game with double-digit kills.
Abigail Bailey and
Ainsley Driska tied for seven kills each.
Ashley Richardson finished the match with 29 assists for her third consecutive match with over 20 setups. Bailey also posted a team-leading 10 digs. McKelvey's three blocks were also a team-leading mark.
On the visitors' side, Lolo Lambert led the match with 19 kills. Rhyan Miciotto (25) and Ryleigh Garis (17) both recorded assists in double figures. Lambert (12) and Miciotto (12) also registered double-doubles with a dozen digs each. Emily Williams paced all players with a match-high six blocks.
Southeastern will enter a seven-match road trip, beginning Friday, at The Rebel Challenge in Las Vegas, Nev. The tourney will begin with a double-header for SLU. The Lions will face UC Irvine at 4 p.m. CDT, before taking on tournament host UNLV at 8 p.m.
