THIBODAUX - Chase Jaramillo and Scott Moseley collected three hits each and Nicholls State recorded a season-high in hits for the second straight game in defeating Southeastern Louisiana, 11-1, in an eight-inning Southland Conference contest Saturday at Ray E. Didier Field.
Jeremy Hill and Blake Bergeron drove in two runs each for Nicholls State (23-23, 12-14 SLC), which moved into sole possession of eighth-place in the Southland Conference standings. Patrick Shreve (2-1) fanned six batters and allowed an unearned run in six innings of work before Brad Delatte pitched the final two to earn his third save of the year.
Southeastern (31-18, 14-12 SLC) took a 1-0 lead in the third inning after
Jacob Fisher reached on an error, moved to second on a single by
Cass Hargis and scored on an RBI single by
Jonathan Pace.
Nicholls answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning as Philip Lyons reached on a double and eventually scored on a throwing error. Bear Comer, who had reached on a single, eventually scored two batters later when Hill reached on an RBI single off Southeastern starter
Tyler Watkins (7-3).
Moseley scored for the Colonels in the fourth inning after leading off with a single and scoring on a double-play grounder by Beau Faulk before adding a run in the sixth when Faulk drove in Moseley on an RBI single to center.
The Colonels scored four runs in the eighth as Comer hit a sacrifice fly, Ray Eureste scored on an error and Bergeron hit a two-run single up the middle.
Nicholls, which collected 16 hits in Friday's 7-3 win, finished with 17 hits against the Lions with Jason Dennis adding a pair of hits.
Southeastern recorded 11 hits for the second straight game with Hargis, Pace,
Jeff Harkensee and
Cody Gougler getting two each. The Lions turned three double plays in the game and stranded nine runners.
