HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team returns to action with a pair of midweek games beginning Tuesday when the Lions travel to face Louisiana-Lafayette at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field.
First pitch is at 6 p.m.
After facing ULL (23-18) for the second time this season, Southeastern (26-15) will return home to face UNO (3-37) on Wednesday in a 6 p.m. contest for its final midweek game of the season at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. Both games can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and at www.LionSports.net.
In the first meeting between the schools,
Justin Boudreaux and
Jeff Harkensee had two hits each and sophomore southpaw
Jordan Hymel pitched 5.1 innings as Southeastern earned a 7-5 win over the Ragin Cajuns on March 9th in Hammond. Freshman
Britt Gautreaux drove in a pair of runs for the Lions, who capitalized on four ULL errors and won their sixth straight game in the series.
Boudreaux leads Southeastern at the plate with a .362 average and is second on the team in home runs (8) and RBI (37).
Brock Hebert (.344-1-24) and
Jonathan Pace (.344-1-29) are next in hitting for the Lions, who enter the week with a .290 batting average with 23 home runs and 266 runs scored.
Harkensee (.313-8-43),
Cass Hargis (.300-0-16),
Josh Cryer (.290-2-30) and
Cody Gougler (.270-1-19) are next at the plate for the Lions.
Hymel (3-2, 6.45 ERA), a former Lutcher High product, will earn the start on the mound against ULL while right-hander
Joseph Koon (2-4, 7.36 ERA) will start on Wednesday against UNO.
The Ragin Cajuns are led offensively by Greg Fontenot with a .356 average. Mike Petello (.331-5-25), Alex Fuselier (.321-4-12) and Lance Marvel (.301-0-16) are next in hitting for the Cajuns, who are hitting .284 as a team with 21 home runs and 215 runs scored.
Right-hander Ryland Parker (1-0, 3.60 ERA) will make his second start of the year for the Ragin Cajuns.
UNO is led at the plate by Cameron Wheeless with a .264 average. Chris Geronimo (.241-0-8) and Beau Boudreaux (.234-0-5) are next in hitting for the Privateers with Nolan Church (.219-4-22) leading the team in home runs and RBI.
Southeastern has posted a pair of victories over the Privateers this season with an 11-5 win on March 22 and an 11-0 shutout on March 30. The schools will face each other for the final time in 2011 on May 3 at Maestri Field in New Orleans.
