Lions Travel To Face No. 7-Ranked LSU In Midweek Clash

Southeastern plays seventh of eight games on road

Jordan Hymel pitched five innings and earned the win last week against Tulane
HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team looks to continue on its impressive start on Tuesday when it visits No. 7-ranked LSU in a 6:30 p.m. contest at Alex Box Stadium.

The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net.

Southeastern (6-1) has won its last five games, including three straight last weekend in claiming the 26th annual South Alabama Classic in Mobile. The Lions opened the tournament with a 6-2 win over Alabama – their first-ever over the Crimson Tide in 11 games – before posting a 7-2 win over Central Florida and a come-from-behind 6-4 win over host South Alabama.

Brock Hebert (.444-1-4) leads Southeastern at the plate with Cody Gougler (.414-0-5), Justin Boudreaux (.400-3-10) and Cass Hargis (.400-0-4) all hitting .400 or above. Jeff Harkensee (.385-3-9) and Jonathan Pace (.367-1-5) are next at the plate for the Lions, who are hitting .319 as a team and have outscored their opposition, 52-20.

Sophomore Jordan Hymel (1-0, 1.80 ERA) will start on the mound for Southeastern after pitching five innings in earning the win in a 13-1 decision over Tulane last Tuesday. Hymel, a former Lutcher High product and 2010 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American, improved to 8-1 in his brief Southeastern career.

LSU (7-0) will send junior right-hander Tyler Jones (1-0, 0.00 ERA) to the mound after the newcomer tossed five innings of three-hit ball in his previous appearance against UNO.

Freshman JaCoby Jones is hitting an impressive .571 (12-fof-21) with two home runs and nine RBI to lead the Tigers. Raph Rhymes (.429-0-12), Tyler Hanover (.420-0-1), Mason Katz (.417-1-11) and Austin Nola (.409-1-8) are regulars in the lineup hitting above .400 with Mikie Mahtook pacing the team with five home runs and 12 RBI.

After facing LSU, the Lions will return home to open a five-game homestand beginning Friday against Sacred Heart at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. The Lions will face SHU for four games beginning Friday at 1 p.m. before closing the series on Monday in a 6 p.m. contest.

Southeastern will close out its homestand on March 9 against Louisiana-Lafayette before opening Southland Conference March 11-13 at UTSA.
