Lady Lions Gear Up For Final Home Matches

Southeastern Faces UTA And Texas State

Tamra Grayson earned honorable mention Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors
HAMMOND – With two weeks remaining in the regular season, the Lady Lions volleyball team hosts its final home matches of 2011 Thursday and Saturday.

Southeastern (5-24, 1-11 Southland) faces Texas-Arlington at 7 p.m. Thursday and Texas State at noon on homecoming Saturday.

Over the last four matches, Tamra Grayson leads Southeastern with 2.13 kills per set. Grayson recorded double-digit kills in three of those sets and earned an honorable mention for Southland Conference Player of the Week for her efforts against Lamar and McNeese State last week.

For the season, Courtney Donald leads the Lady Lion attack (2.25 kills per set). Kinsey Williams (2.14k/set) and Paige Dollison (2.10 k/set) also average more than a pair of kills per set. Setter Lindsey Young averages 7.75 assists per set.

Megan McMillin anchors the Southeastern defense and is ninth in the conference with 3.51 digs per set.

“UT-Arlington is always known for its defense,” head coach Geno Frugoli said. “They're very scrappy like McNeese State so we're going to have to match that intensity.”

UT-Arlington (10-16, 6-6 Southland) is led by the Tara Frantz and Alicia Shaffer, the reigning Southland Conference Players of the Week. Frantz (3.49 k/set) and Amanda Aguilera (3.34 k/set) are the Mavericks top offensive players. Their kills per set average ranks third and fourth in the conference, respectively.

Defensively, Shaffer leads the Southland with 5.69 digs per set and Emily Shearin is sixth in blocks (1.05 b/set).

“When we face those type of teams it makes our level better because we have to keep up,” Frugoli said. “We're going to learn how to stay at that level and push through.”

Senior Day activities will be held prior to Saturday's Texas State match and volleyball alumni will face off in a Volleyball Legends match at 10 a.m. Sunday in the University Center.
