SLU Sweeps Southern to Close out Nonconference Play

Southeastern (8-4) enters Thursday's 6:30 p.m. SLC opener versus McNeese on a three-match win streak

HAMMOND, La. – The two-time reigning Southland Conference champion Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team closed out the nonconference portion of its 2025 schedule with a 25-14, 25-21, 25-14 victory over Southern in the University Center.

Back at home for the first time since Aug. 30, Southeastern (8-4) extended its win streak to three matches heading into league play. The visiting Lady Jaguars fell to 2-9 overall with the loss.

Southeastern hit .344 in the three-set victory, just shy of a season high. Kyra McKelvey led the way with 12 kills, hitting .632 for the match. Anne Brauckmiller (eight kills, .412 attack percentage), Alexis Logarbo (six kills, .385) and Ayla Klingenberg (five kills, .444) contributed to a balanced Lady Lion attack. Peyton Stokley and Ashley Richardson had 19 and 12 assists, respectively.

SLU held the Lady Jaguars to a .133 hitting percentage. Klingenberg led Southeastern with three blocks, while Lexi Gonzalez contributed 15 digs. Ariana Brown paced the visitors with 11 kills.

Southeastern set the tone early in the opening set. Brauckmiller contributed four kills in the opening set, as SLU hit .417 and took the first set, 25-14.

Southern was much more competitive in the second set. A Brown kill cut the SLU advantage to 21-20 and forced a Lady Lion timeout. However, kills by Klingenberg, Abby Bailey and Logarbo keyed a 4-1 run to close the set and gave Southeastern a two-set advantage.

Southeastern closed out the sweep in convincing fashion in the third set. A Stokley ace gave the Lady Lions a commanding 17-4 cushion and Southern would get no closer than nine the rest of the way. Three kills by Anicka Panchartek closed out the sweep for SLU.

Southeastern will open Southland Conference play Thursday, hosting McNeese for a 6:30 p.m. contest in the University Center. Thursday's match will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard in the Hammond area on 90.9 The Lion.

SLU will unveil the 2024 Southland Conference regular season championship banner at Thursday's match. Thursday will also feature the Dig the Lions promotion.
