Southeastern Overwhelms Colonels, 3-0, for Fifth Straight Victory

SLU improves to 10-4 overall and 2-0 in SLC play with 25-18, 25-10, 25-13 win

HAMMOND, La. – The two-time reigning Southland Conference champion Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team closed out a busy week with a 25-18, 25-10, 25-13 Southland Conference victory over Nicholls Saturday afternoon in the University Center.
 
Southeastern (10-4, 2-0 SLC) extended its winning streak to five matches with the win over the Colonels (10-5, 0-2 SLC). The sweep was the fourth straight for SLU and ran the Lady Lions' 2025 home record to 6-0.
 
Southeastern dominated in every facet of Saturday's win, finishing with a season-best .349 hitting percentage, while forcing Nicholls to hit .011 – the lowest by an SLU opponent in 2025.
 
India Bennett was the standout performer for the Lady Lions in Saturday's victory, leading the team with 11 kills and seven blocks. Alexis Logarbo and Kyra McKelvey finished with eight and seven kills, respectively. Ashley Richardson paced SLU with 21 assists, while Lexi Gonzalez added a team-high 11 digs.
 
Nicholls' Maelie Chupin led the Colonels with nine kills. Isabella Padilla topped the visitors with 10 assists, while Olivia Besson chipped in with a match-high 14 digs.
 
SLU took control of the opening set with a 7-0 run to take the lead. McKelvey and Bennett each had four kills in the opening set. Bennett also added three first-set blocks, as Southeastern hit .329 and held Nicholls to a .000 hitting percentage in the opening set.
 
The second set was even more lopsided, as the Lady Lions jumped out to an 8-2 lead and never looked back. SLU closed out the set on an 8-0 run, outhitting the Colonels, .375 to -.026 for the set.
 
Southeastern continued its dominance in the final set. Bennett hit .857 with six kills in the third set, while SLU finished with five service aces for the set – three by Mina Petrovic to close out the win.
 
Southeastern will open the road portion of its Southland Conference schedule with a 6 p.m. match at Lamar Thursday.
