ARLINGTON, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana sophomore Audrey Chelini earned her fourth singles victory of the season, but the Lady Lions fell to defending Southland Conference champion UT Arlington, 6-1, in the league opener for both teams Saturday at the UTA Tennis Center.

Southeastern fell to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in Southland Conference play with the loss. UT Arlington picked up its first dual match win of the spring, improving to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in league action.

“We played hard and we feel like we are improving with every match,” Southeastern head coach Jason Hayes said. “UTA is the defending conference champions for a reason. They are very talented and well-coached.”

In doubles play, the Mavs took a 1-0 lead by winning all three matches. Chelini was the lone Lady Lion to win in singles play, battling from a set down to defeat Katarina Micochova, 3-6, 6-4, 10-5. At No. 4, Southeastern sophomore Morgane Dadot suffered her first singles loss of the spring, falling to Maria Martinez-Romero, 6-0, 6-3. UTA won the remainder of the singles matches in straight sets.

“I was very proud of Audrey's effort today,” Hayes commented. “She showed a lot of toughness coming back from a set down to get the win.”

Southeastern will continue league play on Sunday, facing Texas State at 12 p.m. in San Marcos, Texas.
