HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana freshman Stephanie Mueller posted 10 kills and the Lady Lions posted their highest hitting percentage in their past seven matches, but Lamar countered with three players recording double-digit kills to hand Southeastern a 25-8, 25-20, 25-23 loss in Southland Conference volleyball action Saturday afternoon at McDonald Gym.

Southeastern fell to 10-19 overall and 1-11 in Southland Conference play with the loss. Lamar ran its record to 11-12 overall and 7-5 in league action.

Mueller helped Southeastern hit .230 for the match – including .438 in a tight third set. Sophomore Courtney Donald added seven kills, while junior Arianne Cruckshank notched six winners from the setter position and freshman Cherish Krohn was credited with five kills.

Cruckshank also led the team with 25 assists and eight digs. Donald, senior Allison Jones, sophomore Taylor Buckner and freshman Kinsey Williams each had blocks for the Lady Lions. Cruckshank and junior Cheslea Barr each recorded service aces for Southeastern.

Jayme Bazile and Wendy Krell each finished with a match-high 11 kills, while Cynthia McCollum added 10 kills for Lamar, which finished with a .425 hitting percentage in the victory. Alex Morford had 36 assists for the Cardinals, while Megan McStravick had five of Lamar's 10 service aces.

Angel Coylar led the Cards with 13 digs. Lamar finished with five blocks as a team, as Bazile collected a solo block and three block assists.

Lamar out-hit Southeastern, .542 to -.040 in the opening set to take the early lead. In the second set, Mueller and Donald had four kills apiece for Southeastern, but the Lady Lions could not overcome a 15-4 run by Lamar early in the set.

The third set was the match's most competitive, featuring five ties. Late in the set, a kill by Cruckshank, followed by a block by Jones and Williams gave Southeastern a 23-22 lead. Lamar bounced back with a kill and service ace by McStravick. Krell followed with a kill completed the sweep for the Cardinals.

Southeastern will be back in action on Thursday, facing UT Arlington in a 7 p.m. league match in Arlington, Texas.
