Taylor Buckner had five kills apiece, but the Lady Lion volleyball team was unable to overcome an efficient offensive performance by Sam Houston State and lost, 25-16, 25-21, 25-15, in Southland Conference action Saturday afternoon at the University Center.
The Lady Lions hit -.047 for the match, dropping to 10-17 overall and 1-9 in Southland Conference action. Sam Houston State (11-14, 5-5 Southland) finished the match with a .207 hitting percentage.

Allison Jones and freshman
Stephanie Mueller contributed four kills apiece. Freshman
Lindsey Young led Southeastern with 13 assists, while junior
Paige Dollison had a match-high five service aces.
Defensively, Dollison led the way with nine digs. Buckner and senior
Alex Greer had seven digs apiece. Sophomore
Courtney Donald had a team-high three block assists with Dollison adding two of her own.
Carli Kolbe led Sam Houston State with eight kills, while Haley Niesler added seven and Kym Loving led all players with 28 assists. Kolbe also had a match-high 12 digs. The Bearkats finished with eight total team blocks, led by Kelli Stewart with five.
Southeastern hit just -.132 in the opening set, falling 25-15 despite three kills from Jones. Sam Houston State took a 2-0 lead into the break thanks to a .303 second-set hitting percentage, despite three consecutive service aces by Dollison. In the third set, Southeastern again posted a negative hitting percentage and was unable to avoid the sweep.
The Lady Lions will return to action on Thursday, facing McNeese State at 7 p.m. in Lake Charles.
