SAN ANTONIO, Texas –
Junior right hander Ryan Boudreaux set a career high with 14 strikeouts, sophomore center fielder Cass Hargis extended his hitting streak to nine games and Brandon Street notched his first home run of the season.  But Texas-San Antonio plated five runs in the bottom of the ninth and got three home runs from left fielder Jose Hernandez as the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team fell to defending Southland Conference champion Texas-San Antonio 11-10 in the Lions' conference opener on Friday.

The Lions took the lead early as Street drilled a two-run home run off the top of the UTSA scoreboard in left-center to put Southeastern up 2-0 in the top of the first.

Unfortunately, for the Lions, UTSA answered with four in the bottom frame.  Hernandez had the biggest blow, a three run homer to left, to put the Roadrunners up 4-2.

Southeastern rallied to reclaim the lead in the second as the Lions plated four to claim a 6-4 lead.  Freshman second baseman Justin Boudreaux and senior right fielder Brian McCants each had a two-run single to put the Lions out in front once again.

In a back-and-forth matchup, the Roadrunners evened things up with a solo home run from Hernandez and an RBI single from Tyler Carpenter in the fourth to tie things up at 6-6.

However, Ryan Boudreaux found his stride as he held the Roadrunners scoreless over the next four frames.  The Gonzales, La. native recorded a career high 14 punchouts while walking just one and retiring ten consecutive batters at one point.

With Boudreaux holding the UTSA offense at bay, the Lions looked for some insurance.  Justin Boudreaux gave Southeastern a 7-6 lead in the sixth with the first home run of his college career.  Southeastern added two more in the frame to push their advantage to 9-6, and an RBI single by sophomore first baseman Joe Sparacino made it 10-6 after eight.

Boudreaux would make his bid for a complete game when he came out to start the ninth.  However, after a sharp single by Matthew James to start the frame, senior right hander Ryan Collins came on to try to nail things down.

Collins struck out Carpenter and induced a sacrifice fly from designated hitter Clay Schrader.  However, the Roadrunners pieced together two more singles and a double before Hernandez' final home run of the night completed the five run rally.

The Lions will look to even their three-game series against UTSA at one game apiece when they square off against the Roadrunners on Saturday.  First pitch from San Antonio is scheduled for 2 p.m.  Live stats will be available online at www.LionSports.net.
