Babin, Cryer, Jones Lead Southeastern In Second Scrimmage

Lions to hold Spring Game on March 28

Andre Cryer caught five passes and a touchdown in Saturday's scrimmage
HAMMOND – Brian Babin completed 16 of 22 passes for 174 yards, including a 28-yard touchdown pass to Andre Cryer, while redshirt freshman Zeke Jones rushed for 60 yards and a touchdown to lead Southeastern Louisiana in its second scrimmage of spring practice Saturday morning in Strawberry Stadium.

Franklinton's Re'Keem Wilson recovered a pair of fumbles, returning one 80 yards for a touchdown while former South Plaquemines High standout David Durden recorded an interception to stop a drive by the Lion offense.

“I thought our first team offense did a real good job today,” Southeastern head coach Mike Lucas said. “We were limited offensively in what we could do because of some injuries and there was a lot of familiarity on the defensive side. Zeke (Jones) ran the ball well and had a great scrimmage.”

Jones, a redshirt freshman from Springfield, scored the first offensive touchdown for the Lions with an electrifying 50-yard touchdown run after initially running right, cutting back across the field and outrunning the defense to the end zone.

Cryer, who caught a team-high five passes, scored Southeastern's final touchdown of the day as he split two defenders and caught Babin's pass in stride.

Jasper Ducksworth added 26 yards rushing and caught three passes for 53 yards for the Lions while redshirt freshman B.J. Young was 9-for-17 for 74 yards. Defensively. Junior college transfer Michael Ducksworth recorded five tackles while Kansas State transfer Jack Hayes had a pair of sacks.

Southeastern enters its final week of spring practice with four workouts beginning Monday at 8 p.m. The Lions will practice at 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday before holding a light workout Friday at 3:30 p.m.

The Lions conclude spring practice on Saturday when they hold their annual Spring Game in Strawberry Stadium at noon. All practices are open to the public.

“Our guys have given us a lot of good work this spring,” said Lucas, “and we need to finish up strong heading into the Spring Game next Saturday.”
