HAMMOND -
Senior left fielder Brandon Street went 3-for-4 with four RBI, sophomore first baseman Joe Sparacino drove in three runs and junior right hander Ryan Boudreaux allowed just three earned runs over six innings as the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team (4-3) rolled to a 22-4 win over the Sacred Heart Pioneers (1-2) in the rubber match of the three-game weekend series on Sunday.  The 18-run margin of victory was the Lions largest since defeating Jackson State 24-1 on April 12, 2002.

Once again, the Pioneers opened the scoring with a two run first, putting the Lions in an early hole.  However, like in Friday's opener, the Southeastern offense rallied in a big way.

Down 2-0 in the home half of the first, Southeastern retaliated with a nine run frame.  The Lions recorded just four hits in the inning but took advantage of three walks, a hit batter, a passed ball and a a Pioneer error to send 12 men to the plate.

Street got the Lions on the board in his first trip to the plate in the first.  The Columbus, Ga. native singled home sophomore center fielder Cass Hargis to extend his hitting streak to 14 games (dating back to May 17, 2008) to match a career high.

Later in the inning, Street came to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs.  With the runners going on the 3-2 pitch, Street cleared the bases with a single and advanced to second on the throw.

When the first inning came to a close, the Lions found themselves in the lead 9-2.

That was all the Lions would need as Boudreaux settled in from there.  The junior transfer from LSU-Eunice allowed just two more runs over his final five frames to shut down a potent Sacred Heart lineup that totaled 22 runs in the first two games of the series.  Boudreaux struck out just two batters but walked none over his 6.0 IP to pick up the first win of his NCAA Division I career and improve to 1-1.

The Southeastern offense stayed busy to make sure the Lions stayed out in front.  After Sacred Heart scored twice in the third to make it 9-4, the Lions tallied at least one run in each of their six remaining trips to the plate.

Southeastern took a 10-4 lead on an RBI groundout by senior shortstop Ty Summerlin in the third.  An RBI single by Sparacino followed by a run-scoring triple by Philip Freeman put the Lions up 12-4 after four, and an RBI single by senior designated hitter Brian McCants made it 13-4 after five.

The Lions put up another big crooked number with a five-run sixth.  Junior pinch hitter Josh Dabbs led off with a pinch hit home run to right center field.  Sparacino would add an RBI groundout and three consecutive bases loaded walks to senior pinch hitter Jordan D'Arensbourg, freshman pinch hitter Cody Gougler and Dabbs would make it 18-4 after six.

A seventh inning RBI ground out by Summerlin, an eighth inning RBI single from freshman second baseman Ross Barbier, an eighth inning RBI double from junior first baseman Chris Ernest and an eighth inning RBI groundout from sophomore right fielder Trey Martin gave Southeastern the final 22-4 margin.

The Lions will return to action on Tuesday when they face Mississippi Valley State at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field in Hammond.  First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. Live stats and streaming audio will be available online at www.LionSports.net and the game can be heard in Hammond on KSLU 90.9 FM.
