HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team will be back in action on Saturday, hosting in-state foe Louisiana-Lafayette at 3 p.m. in the University Center.

Saturday's game between the Lady Lions (2-5) and visiting Ragin' Cajuns (2-4) will be broadcast on the Internet only at www.LionSports.net, where live stats will also be available. Saturday's game will be the first of two straight between the two in-state foes, as Southeastern will head to Louisiana-Lafayette for a 5 p.m. contest at the Ragin' Cajuns on Dec. 12.

Prior to Saturday's game, Southeastern will unveil its 2008-09 Southland Conference East Division Championship banner. The Lady Lions took home their second division title in three years last season, finishing with a 19-11 record and an 11-5 mark in league play.

One of the primary contributors to the Lady Lions' championship run was junior guard Chelsea Hix. The first 150 fans will receive a trading card featuring the Canton, Ga. native, courtesy of the Southeastern PRIDE (Positive Role models Involved in the Development of Excellence).

Southeastern will be looking to bounce back from Tuesday's 69-54 home loss to UNO. The Lady Lions committed 21 turnovers and UNO shot 53.7 percent from the floor, negating Southeastern's 41-30 rebounding advantage.

Lady Lion junior forward Rashima Jenkins led Southeastern with 11 points and eight rebounds on Tuesday. Hix added nine points, while sophomore guard Kelli Jenkins chipped in with eight points. Senior post Zevy Ivory also pulled down eight rebounds, while Kelli Jenkins dished out three assists.

Southeastern is averaging 58.1 points per game, led by senior wing Quantae Thomas and her 12.l point per game scoring average. Senior guard Kim Edmonson (10.1 ppg), Kelli Jenkins (6.7 ppg), Ivory (6.3 ppg) and Rashima Jenkins (6.0 ppg) round out the top scorers for the Lady Lions. Kelli Jenkins has been the team's top distributor and is currently third in the Southland with 4.3 assists per game. The magic number has been 60 for Southeastern, as the Lady Lions are 2-0 when scoring 60 points or more and 0-5 when not reaching the 60-point plateau.

The Lady Lions have been solid on the boards, averaging 38.4 rebounds per game and outrebounding opponents by just under four boards per contest. Ivory leads the team with 6.1 rebounds per game, followed by Thomas (4.7 rpg) and Rashima Jenkins (4.4 rpg).

Southeastern, which hit a Southland-Conference record 220 three point field goals last season, has been prolific behind the arc this season, averaging 6.3 three-point field goals per contest. Thomas and Edmonson lead the team with 2.0 three point field goals per game, while Hix is averaging 1.1 treys per outing. With three field goals from outside against UNO, Hix moved into eighth place on the school's career list with 75 three-point field goals.

Defensively, the Lady Lions are holding opponents to 61.9 points per game and forcing 19.3 turnovers per game. Kelli Jenkins leads the team with 1.6 steals per game. Junior center Kasia Gawor tops the team with 1.0 blocked shot per game. Ivory is currently ninth on the school's career list with 62 blocked shots.

Louisiana-Lafayette comes into the game with some momentum. The Ragin' Cajuns opened the season with a win over Texas Southern (64-57), followed by four consecutive losses, falling to Southern (61-52), Lamar (66-58), Baylor (89-42) and Idaho (90-66). Louisiana-Lafayette snapped that skid with an 82-68 win over McNeese State on Wednesday in Lake Charles.

In Wednesday's win, Louisiana-Lafayette overcame 28 turnovers, forcing the Cowgirls into 29 turnovers and hitting 31-of-37 free throw attempts. Sophomore forward Mercedes Johnson led the team with 20 points, while senior forward Amy Richard (12 points, seven rebounds), junior guard Jasmine Barnes (11 points, eight rebounds) and freshman guard Jamie Gunter (nine points, six assists) also had significant contributions.

The Ragin' Cajuns are averaging 60.5 points per game, while also committing 22.7 turnovers per contest. Johnson leads the team with 13.2 points per game, followed by senior forward Alexis Green (10.8 ppg), Gunter (6.5 ppg) and junior guard Jasmine Barnes (6.2 ppg).

Louisiana-Lafayette is averaging 35.5 rebounds per game, but is being outrebounded by just over eight rebounds per contest. Top scorers Johnson and Green are also the team's best rebounders, averaging 5.0 and 4.7 boards per game, respectively.

Defensively, the Ragin' Cajuns' opponents are averaging 72.0 points per game and committing 20.5 turnovers per outing. Green is the team's top defender, averaging 1.5 steals per game.

Southeastern is 26-10 all-time versus Louisiana-Lafayette, but the Ragin' Cajuns have won the last two meetings. The two teams have not met since the 2003-04 season with Louisiana-Lafayette taking a 57-43 win in Hammond.
