HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana senior guard Kim Edmonson poured in a career-high 23 points and the Lady Lions forced 21 Centenary turnovers in a 65-43 win in non-conference action Saturday afternoon in the University Center.

Southeastern (2-4) snapped a three-game losing streak with the win and improved to 7-0 all-time versus Centenary. The Ladies (0-6) remained winless in 2009-10. The Lady Lions scored 24 points off of Centenary turnovers.

Edmonson was the lone Lady Lion to score in double figures. Senior wing Quantae Thomas added nine points, while senior post Zevy Ivory added eight points and 11 different Lady Lions scored. Sophomore guard Kelli Jenkins led the Lady Lions with three assists.

Southeastern also dominated the boards, out-rebounding Centenary, 48-31. Junior forward Rashima Jenkins, junior guard Chelsea Hix, Edmonson and junior center Rachel Mackie all pulled down six rebounds for Southeastern.

The 43 points scored by Centenary marked the fewest allowed by the Lady Lions this season. Junior center Kasia Gawor paced the Lady Lion attack with four blocked shots, while Ivory and Thomas had two steals apiece.

“We were very pleased with the energy we came out with and we did a nice job rebounding and playing with a lot of effort on defense,” Southeastern head coach Lori Davis Jones said. “We're still working to find ourselves as a team and we'd like to see our team be more consistently tougher.”

Quintesa Gold came off the bench with 11 points to lead Centenary, while Anne Farrell and Jalena Sanders chipped in nine points apiece for the Ladies. Farrell also had a game-high eight rebounds and four assists.

Edmonson scored 18 of her points in the first half, as Southeastern marched to a 20-point halftime lead.
The lead got as high as 34 in the second half before the Lady Lions emptied the bench. 11 different players saw double-digit minutes for Southeastern and no player played more than 23 minutes.

Southeastern scored the game's first six points and a pair of Ivory free throws stretched the lead to 21-5 with 9:43 left. However, Centenary answered with a 7-0 run of their own over the next four minutes, as a Farrell jumper cut the lead to 21-14 with 5:54 left.

Edmonson ended any hope of a Centenary upset with a huge scoring burst to end the half. The Many native scored 13 points in a 15-0 run, capping it with a jumper to put Southeastern up, 36-14, with 1:48 left in the opening period. Southeastern went into the break up, 36-16.

Southeastern turned up the defensive intensity to start the second half. After Centenary briefly cut the lead under 20 early in the period, Southeastern answered with a decisive 17-1 run. A spectacular three-point play by Thomas keyed the rally and the Lady Lions led 55-21 with 9:16 left.

Centenary chipped away at the lead at the end of the game, but could get no closer than 21 the rest of the way.

Southeastern will return to action on Tuesday, facing UNO at 7:45 p.m. in the University Center. Tuesday's game will be broadcast live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the Internet at www.LionSports.net.
