LADY LIONS LOOK TO GET BACK ON TRACK AT CENTENARY

Southeastern Volleyball Hopes to Rebound in Shreveport

HAMMOND -  After opening the 2008 Southland Conference season with a disappointing loss to Nicholls State, the Southeastern Louisiana University women's volleyball team (4-5, 0-1 SLC) will look to return to their winning ways when they head to Shreveport to take on the Centeary Ladies (2-13, 0-4 Summitt League) on Tuesday.

"We didn't have the kind of intensity and focus that we needed in our last match," head coach Julie Langford said.  "Nicholls came out hungry for a win and we weren't aggressive enough to overcome that.  So, now our focus has to be on coming out strong and forcing other teams to react to us, us reacting to them."

The Lady Lions will try to return to the form that saw them win four of six matches from Sept. 12 through Sept. 23.

"We've seen what our team is capable of when everything is clicking," Langford said.  "Now we just have to make sure we are able to do it consistently."

Tuesday's match provides a brief respite from SLC action, but Southeastern will return to the conference slate by hosting Northwestern State on Friday night, giving the Lady Lions a chance to fine tune their game before returning to the conference grind.

"This is going to be a very competitive conference all season long," Langford said.  "It's going to take a lot of hard work from where we were on Friday against Nicholls, but we've seen what we're capable of playing like.  If we have the same kind of intensity that we had against ULL in all our matches, we'll be just fine."

First serve of the Lady Lions and Centenary is set for 5:30 p.m. in Shreveport.  Live stats will be available at www.LionSports.net.
