HAMMOND, La. – The two-time reigning Southland Conference regular season champion Southeastern Louisiana University indoor volleyball team is set for the Southland Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament Friday. The Lady Lions will face off against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the Quarterfinal round in Commerce, Texas.
No. 3 seed Southeastern (20-8, 12-4 SLC) will start the tournament by competing against No. 6-seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (12-16, 8-8 SLC) Friday, Nov. 21, at 10 a.m. The teams will play in the quarterfinal round with the victor set to compete in the semifinal round against the winner of No. 2 UTRGV and No. 7 HCU. The tournament-opening match will be televised on ESPN+.
Previously, SLU visited the Islanders on Saturday, Oct. 18. The Lady Lions won that matchup in straight sets, beginning a five-game winning streak. In 2024, both teams competed in the SLC Championships Match, which was won by the Islanders in a three-set contest.
As a team, Southeastern ranks at the top of the conference in kills per set, averaging 13.70 in that category. On the attacking front, the Lady Lions are led by All-SLC First Team honorees
Kyra McKelvey and
India Bennett. SLC Player of the Year McKelvey is the conference's leader in hitting percentage at .354 and kills (365), while Bennett ranks eighth with .311. SLC Second Team member
Alexis Logarbo is fifth among SLC student-athletes in hitting percentage at .324.
Ashley Richardson and
Peyton Stokley are splitting duties at setter for the Lady Lions. Richardson is ninth among all SLC competitors in assists per set, averaging 6.11. Stokley ranks ninth in the conference with 33 service aces on the year.
Defensively, the Lady Lions are second in the conference with 2.41 blocks per set. First Teamer
India Bennett is the SLC leader with 1.51 blocks per set for a league-high 134 blocks on the season. Logarbo has also made an impact in blocks, averaging 0.88 per set, sixth in the conference.
The Islanders also have strong contributors on the offensive side with two of the SLC's best hitters. Tatum Mason is second in the league with a .351 hitting percentage. Ranking seventh in the SLC in hitting percentage, Katelyn Krienke has averaged a .318 mark.
All-SLC First Teamer Virginia Van Der Werff is second in assists per set in the league, averaging 10.37 in that category. Van Der Werff is also fourth in total service aces in the league, tallying 39 in 2025. Brooklyn Jaeger, who was named the SLC's Libero of the Year, is another First Team All-Conference winner. The redshirt sophomore averages 5.16 digs per set, totaling 537 digs this season, ranking second and third in the SLC, respectively.
In their previous matchup, SLU won in Corpus Christi, 26-24, 25-22, and 25-21. McKelvey had a game-high 20 kills, more than double the amount of kills by the Islanders' leader. TAMU-CC's Van Der Werff led the match in assists, notching 37 in the game. Jaeger led the game in digs with 21.
The Southland Conference Tournament will run from Friday, Nov. 21, through the Championship Match on Sunday, Nov. 23, in Commerce, Texas, at The Field House. The tournament will be televised on ESPN+.
