In his final season at Southeastern, Young excelled academically and athletically. He earned All-American honors with a second place showing in the weight throw at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. With his performance, he joined teammate Devin King and former Lion Donald Dykes as the only four-time All-Americans in program history.

He made more history with his performance in the classroom, as he earned Academic All-America accolades for the second straight season. Young was also named the Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Student-Athlete of the Year.

At the Southland Outdoor Championships in May, Young was the high-point scorer of the meet, finishing with 25 points on the way to earning Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year accolades. He won both the hammer and shot put in New Orleans, while finishing fourth in the discus.
Young received Athlete of the Year accolades for the second time in his career, as he previously received the honor in 2014-15. Young is just the fifth student-athlete in school history to be named Athlete of the Year multiple times, joining three-time winner Renee Villarreal (tennis), Emilija Arnaudovska (tennis), Chris Carter (men's track and field) and Renata Smekalova (tennis).

Young is the fifth men's track and field student-athlete to claim SLU Athlete of the Year honors. He joins Carter, Adonson Shallow, Lars Laursen and David Bennett.
